According to Shah Hussain Mortazawi, the spokesperson of Afghan President, bringing reform in the country’s police force to overhaul internal security mechanism remains one of the top priorities before the government at present, especially following the just concluded Brussels conference. Besides, day to day management of the Afghan war is another priority that the National Unity Government (NUG) should focus on.
Shah Hussain Mortazawi talked about election administration. After the Brussels conference reforming the existing electoral system is also a priority. He said that election should be held in a transparent and inclusive way. At the same time primacy should be given to build public confidence in electoral institutions. This is one important task before the Afghan National Unity Government.
3- Returning Refugees
The President’s spokesperson talked about the daily return of about 5000 Afghan refugees from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan. The government has formed high council on refugees to solve immigrants’ issues. Mortazawi also talked about the return of Afghan refugees from Europe, which he said should happen voluntarily and with assistance packages.
4- Brussels Conference Assistance
The President’s spokesperson talked about Afghan citizens’ expectations of bringing positive changes and stressed that government has enough budget, which should be efficiently and properly used. He added that the President would meet government officials and people from different zones and define a new chapter of cooperation.
5- Fighting corruption
Mortazawi said, Brussels conference was the first place where Afghanistan was not blamed and accused for corruption. This is a good news for all Afghans. He said there is both desire and determination to fight corruption in the country. Mortazawi further stressed that corrupt people have support of their ethnic groups. He appealed to people of Afghanistan to raise their voices against corrupt people.
6- Domestic Investment
The spokesperson stressed that another priority for the Afghan government is to attract and utilize domestic capitals. He said that recently about one billion US dollars from domestic capital have been used which can create employment and raise the cash flow.
7- Heavy Responsibility
Mortazawi expressed optimism about the Afghan government’s responsibilities after the Brussels conference and its commitments to fulfil international community’s expectations.
